By Parshant Dhand, Chief Innovation Officer, Advance Solutions, specializing in driving digital innovation and transformation for nonprofits.

In an era where nonprofits are expected to do more with less, digital transformation is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity. As mission-driven organizations navigate challenges such as reduced funding, rising demand, and administrative overload, technology can be a powerful force for change.

In this Q&A, I reflect on my journey from global enterprises to nonprofit innovation, and how purpose-built technology, like our Nonprofit Service Management (NPSM) platform, built on ServiceNow, is helping nonprofits overcome systemic inefficiencies and scale their impact. I will discuss how AI, cloud-secure infrastructure, and unified data models are driving a new era of smart, sustainable mission delivery.

Q1. You’ve held key roles at global giants like Procter & Gamble and Unilever before joining Advance Solutions. Could you walk us through your professional path and what ultimately inspired your move into the nonprofit tech space?

Answer: Absolutely. I feel very fortunate to have started my career at two of the world’s most respected consumer goods companies: Procter & Gamble and Unilever. Those experiences really shaped my professional foundation. At P&G, I learned the power of disciplined processes, data-driven decision making, and customer-centric innovation. Unilever added to that with a strong focus on purpose-driven business and global market experience.

Over time, I found myself drawn more and more to technology and its potential to transform how organizations operate and serve their customers, not just in consumer goods, but across all industries. That’s what ultimately led me to Advance Solutions. I was excited about the opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, innovation, and impact, particularly in helping mission-driven organizations like nonprofits modernize their operations and maximize their impact. Advance Solutions has given me a platform to combine my passion for operational excellence and innovation with a deep sense of purpose, helping organizations that are doing good in the world operate smarter and more effectively.

Q2. Your passion for driving digital change in the nonprofit world is clear. What sparked your interest in supporting nonprofit missions through technology, and how did that connection develop?

Answer: Advance Solutions has always been committed to leveraging technology to drive meaningful change, and the nonprofit sector represents a space where digital transformation can have an immense social impact. Our journey into advancing nonprofits began with a simple realization—many mission-driven organizations struggle with outdated systems, operational inefficiencies, and limited resources.

We saw an opportunity to bridge this gap with an enterprise platform like ServiceNow to help nonprofits modernize their operations, maximize resources, and amplify their impact. Over time, as we worked with many non-profits, we learned a lot about non-profit operations and gained incredible insights. This led us to develop NPSM (Nonprofit Service Management), built on ServiceNow, a solution tailored to the unique needs of nonprofits.

Q3. With nonprofits facing tighter budgets and staffing cuts due to funding freezes and reviews, how can modern technologies help them maintain, if not improve, their ability to deliver on their mission?

Answer: With federal funding reviews and freezes straining nonprofit budgets and headcounts, organizations need new technologies and solutions that maximize efficiency without compromising impact. NPSM (Nonprofit Service Management), built on the trusted ServiceNow platform, helps nonprofits streamline operations, unify data, and scale their mission effectively.

Key Benefits for Nonprofits:

  • Eliminates Disparate Point Solutions: Provides a single, integrated platform that replaces fragmented systems, reducing inefficiencies.
  • Unified Data Architecture Model: Ensures end-to-end visibility across programs, beneficiaries, and outcomes, enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Agentic AI & Automation: AI agents save time, reduce human effort, and improve efficiency by automating repetitive tasks while continuously optimizing their performance.
  • Cloud-Secure Infrastructure: Ensures data protection, compliance, and accessibility while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Real-Time Collaboration: Breaks down silos between agencies, nonprofits, and service providers for seamless coordination.
  • Impact-Driven Analytics: Helps organizations demonstrate measurable success, strengthening grant applications and funding renewals.
  • Seamless Scalability: Supports nonprofits of all sizes with flexible, cloud-based technology that grows with their needs.

By replacing outdated systems with a modern, AI-driven, and cloud-secure solution, NPSM empowers nonprofits to optimize resources, enhance service delivery, and sustain their mission despite financial constraints.

Q4. Could you highlight some real-world examples where nonprofits have effectively tackled operational hurdles using the solutions provided by Advance Solutions?

Answer: Advance Solutions has helped numerous nonprofit organizations successfully navigate operational challenges by implementing cutting-edge technologies and solutions. Two prime examples include:

  1. A Leading Global Nonprofit Organization

The client, supporting multiple social agencies with HR, travel, and finance services, faced inefficiencies due to disparate systems and manual processes. Advance Solutions, through its expertise in ServiceNow HR Service Delivery (HRSD) and ServiceNow IT Service Management (ITSM) and our NPSM, helped the client:

  • Establish a single point of entry for staff across more than 100 countries
  • Digitize forms and tasks, reducing paperwork and manual effort
  • Enhance user experience with automated workflows and self-service portals
  • Improve cross-agency coordination and efficiency
  1. A Global Nonprofit Leader

The client, responsible for administering employee pensions worldwide, needed to modernize its outdated legacy systems. Advance Solutions leveraged ServiceNow Customer Service Management (CSM) to:

  • Unify operations under a single digital platform
  • Automate case management with multilingual self-service portals
  • Integrate telephony, document management, and real-time performance dashboards
  • Replace paper-based processes with streamlined digital workflows
  • Improve collaboration, response times, and overall stakeholder satisfaction

Through these implementations, Advance Solutions has demonstrated how AI-driven, cloud-secure solutions like ServiceNow and NPSM can replace disparate point solutions, provide end-to-end visibility, and enable seamless scalability, empowering nonprofits to maximize their mission impact.

Q5. Given that many employees are anxious about AI potentially threatening job security, how do you address and ease those concerns when presenting your solutions to audiences who may be hesitant or protective of their roles?

Answer: AI adoption in the workplace often raises concerns about job displacement, but the reality is that enterprise-grade solutions like NPSM are designed to empower employees, not replace them. Addressing AI-related fears requires a balanced approach focused on enablement, transparency, and long-term value creation.

  1. Shifting the Narrative from Replacement to Empowerment
  • AI augments human capabilities rather than replacing roles, allowing employees to focus on higher-value work instead of repetitive administrative tasks.
  • NPSM enhances decision-making by providing data-driven insights that support—not supplant—human expertise.
  • With agentic AI built into ServiceNow, organizations can automate workflows intelligently while keeping employees in control.
  1. Addressing Concerns with a Unified, Scalable Solution
  • Many organizations rely on disconnected point solutions, leading to inefficiencies, knowledge silos, and a lack of visibility.
  • NPSM, built on ServiceNow’s unified architecture, replaces fragmented systems with a seamless, end-to-end solution that improves collaboration across teams.
  • A single source of truth ensures transparency and alignment, reducing anxiety around technology-driven change.
  1. Proving Immediate Value with Practical Benefits
  • Automated workflows and AI-driven efficiencies free up time, allowing employees to focus on mission-critical tasks.
  • Secure cloud-based infrastructure ensures data integrity, eliminating concerns about system redundancy and IT overhead.
  • Seamless scalability enables nonprofits to adapt as needs evolve without displacing their workforce.

By replacing fear-driven narratives with tangible benefits, organizations can drive AI adoption in a way that aligns with employee well-being, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability. Solutions like NPSM not only streamline operations but also equip employees with the tools they need to succeed in a technology-driven environment.
